Bill has been married to Rose West for more than 57 years. He served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam conflict where he received the Bronze Star and other commendations. He received his juris doctor degree in 1978 and has been an active member of the Georgia Bar Association for 48 years. He maintained a solo law practice for 34 years (during which he also served as a part-time judge in Clayton County, Georgia, for 16 years); served as a full-time judge for nine years; and was a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution for five years mediating domestic relations and general civil litigation cases. He was a volunteer instructor for various professional organizations, including Georgia's Institute for Continuing Judicial Education, the Clayton County Bar Association (where he held several offices), the Clayton County Regional Police Academy, and the Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of Residential Property Managers. Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and has been active in churches he attended throughout his adult life, serving as an Outreach Minister, Director of Children's Ministry, and Legal Counsel. He is currently a member of the Flat Creek Baptist Church and a member of Gideons International.
