Waiting on God
Waiting on God can be a refreshing or a frustrating time–according to how you face the moment!
“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength…” Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
Do you enjoy waiting in a long line to make a purchase? Of course not, you want to pay for your product and move on to the next task awaiting you. Spiritually, we sometimes have to stand in a long line, waiting our turn to receive our next assignment. But, waiting requires patience and patience requires perseverance and perseverance requires godliness.
According to Scripture, when you wait on the Lord, you get stronger. The person who walks in a love relationship with God finds strength in waiting with Him. So much is learned about life during this meditative time. God has designed just the right amount of waiting time so that what happens in your life is exactly on His time table. This time of waiting is when you should GAIN strength, not lose strength!
In Isaiah 40:31, the prophet says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” That seems like a contradiction in terms because many people say, “When I’m in a waiting pattern, I’m weaker.” But not to the one who knows God.
God never disappoints His children. If God puts you in a waiting pattern, He is giving you an opportunity to learn what it means to renew your strength. Waiting is the time when you energize all that is within you and you grow stronger knowing that when God begins to speak, move, or guide, it will require all the strength that you can marshal to follow His leading.
Are you in the middle of a time to renew your strength? If so, what will you do next? Maybe you need to pray a simple prayer like this:
God, teach me that waiting on You renews my strength. Help me understand what You are teaching me during the times of waiting, but help me to continue doing the last thing You told me to do.
