truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:16-17
To know if you are a true branch you must have life from the Vine and bear fruit. But if you bear fruit, Jesus will prune you so that you may bear more fruit. He deepens your life in Him.
Deepening your life in Christ is different than developing your life in Christ. When you are developing, you are learning how to relate to Christ on a daily basis. Developing asks questions life, “What Scripture should I read today?” “Should I use a Bible reading plan?” “How would I take a Bible passage and develop a lesson that I could share with others?” “Should I memorize Bible verses?” “How to I find the right verses to read to gain victory in my struggles?”
Those excellent questions reveal that a person is in a healthy developing relationship with God. But what if you want to go beyond that and deepen your walk with Christ?
But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.”
1 Corinthians 2:9-10
The deep things of God go beyond the obvious. While those who are developing in Christ experience obvious things, they must go to a deeper level to experience the fullness of abiding in Christ. Peter experienced the miracles of Jesus like many others. He saw the obvious changes that happened in their physical lives. But only when he truly repented of his personal denial of Christ did he go beyond the obvious and experience a true, deep change of heart. His next great experience was preaching to thousands whose lives would be turned upside down for Christ. Peter then began to see the deep things of God. A change of heart is much different than a change of habits.
The Power of the Holy Spirit must be present and active for you to understand the deep things of God. Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:31-32). Abiding in the Word is much deeper than reading the Word. Anyone can read the Bible, but it takes a developed disciple to abide in the Word.
